Scat

For my field guide I decided to research scat. Scat is the animal feces, it is not only what the animal has been eating but it's who the animal was. I decided to choose three animals and give a description about each one including their scat.

Eagles were one of the four animals I chose to research on for scat. Eagles eat fish, smaller birds, small mammals, and carrion. Eagle scat is rather small because they have rather small bodies. Average eagles will way about nine pounds and its height is approximately three feet. Their average wingspan is 5.5 to 7.5 feet and average life span is up to 20 years in the wild and 40 years in captivity.

I also chose a beaver for one my organisms. They are very large, dark brown creatures. The beaver usually ways about 45-60 pounds and will live to an age of about eight. Their scat is small because they are herbivores and eat small amounts of food at a time. The beaver will eat the bark off of trees and will also eat water plants, small shoots of new trees, and corn whenever it's available.

Deer were another one of the animals I wanted to research for their scat. Deer scat looks like a pellet with a dimple on one end and a point on the opposite end. Most of their scat is found in piles near feeding areas. Deer eat mainly plants, they are herbivores as well as the beaver.
