The Bobcat (Lynx rufus)

Range: The Canadian border to southern Mexico.

Habitat: Forests, deserts, scrub, swamps, rocky country, and some farmland.

Features: Smaller ears with tufts, dark spots (mostly on its legs), and the black only on the top of the tip of the Bobcat’s tail, with lots of facial fur.

Diet: Birds, insects, retiles, amphibians, and mammals, such as rabbits, hares, mice, squirrels, and porcupines. The Bobcat is a nocturnal animal (active at night).

Height: 1-1.5 ft.

Body Length: 2-4 ft.

Weight: 15-30lbs

Color: Thick reddish brow to brownish gray fur with small dark spots.

Speed: 15 mph (can leap 12 ft.)

Voice: Bobcats can make many different sounds like coughing, yowling, and screaming.

 

 

Facts: Most Bobcats only live 2-5 years in the wild while being able to live 12-15 years in captivity. They have extra fur on their ears and cheek areas that are used to hear sensitive vibrations.
