ONRC GIS develops products and services in four areas:

  • Analytical and Cartographic Products and Services

  • Educational Services

  • Regional and Internet Information Services

  • GIS Laboratory with GIS Workstations,
GPS Equipment, and large format printer

ONRC GIS is managed by GIS Coordinator-Analyst TZA. Current projects include building GIS and GPS capacity for the City of Forks, including training and creating a new digital information infrastucture, Marine Data Access Initiative/Portal, DNR NaturE GIS Query Tool. In 2007, we developed the GIS infrastructure for a road sedimentation model for DNR.

GIS Analyst Keven Bennett is currently working on the Marine Data Access Initiative/Portal, DNR's NaturE GIS Query Tool, and ForksGIS. He has worked on Invasive Spartina GIS projects including Tidal Exposure Modeling and Spartina Spread modeling (principal modeler), Estuarine Ranking mapping for Willapa Bay, Burrowing Shrimp GIS, and other projects.

GIS Analyst Erik Sfetku, a graduate of Oregon State University, worked with us in 2003-2004. He was the primary planner for one of our regional GIS conferences and compiled WRIA 20 data for the Clearinghouse. Too quickly, he blasted off and secured commercial employment at NavTeq, Portland. Yeah!

Forks High School interns work here on a variety of projects. Currently (2008), Brett McGinley and Kim Olsen are working with us on ForksGIS. Brett will be processing GPS data and utilities data, and Kim is developing the GIS and website for the historic Forks Cemetery.

Jimmy Harmon had been with us from November 2003 to September 2006. He's now an EMT in Moses Lake, Washington and firefighter at the Grant County Fire Department, while continuing his college education. He was our resident expert in recreational GPS and helped teach classes and run the NatureMap station during Nature Days. Ken Zellar helped GPS fire hydrants for the City of Forks. Kellin Spade worked with TZA on a new Flash-based Spartina website. Landon Johnson worked on Forks GIS and other projects. Ken Santman helped with GIS, video-capture for a Conference, and websites. Ken is a graduate of Gonzaga University and is now working at Puget Sound Energy. Joel Peterson helped us organize forestry-class website material. He's now a U.S. Marine, and we miss him as he is performing a tour of duty in Iraq. Jeff Gingell helped us with Mill Creek GPS work and other projects. Wes Romberg helped us out with GIS a loooong time ago. He's now a Forester/GIS Technician with Pacific Forest Management consulting firm in Forks! Meghan Tuttle helped with Knotweed GPS data compilation and other historical ONRC GIS projects like the Washington Virtual Classroom website and Mill Creek Water Quality GPS data collection. Meghan graduated from Whitman University and is now a big-shot at Rayonier Timberlands Company here in Forks! Pete Shima helped us with programming on the Washington Virtual Classroom website and database - Pete's now with RockStar Games in London!
