UW ONRC 2003 Winter GIS Conference

Hosted By:

Geo Hunt interactive GPS & Orienteering Exercise

Make sure you bring GeoHunt

  • Cold Weather Rain Gear

  • GPS (recommended but optional)

We thought it would be fun to incorporate an interactive exercise into our conference this year. Everyone will have a chance during the conference to go out in search of six particular coordinates on the ONRC property. Success in finding these coordinates depends on the ability to navigate using three tools: a compass, a map, and a GPS.

Those who are successful in locating these coordinates will have a chance to win some prizes. At each location is a camouflaged coffee can with raffle tickets in it. At the end of the conference we will raffle off some prizes.

This activity will give people a chance to:
  • Navigate with a GPS
  • Learn the basics of navigation with a map and a compass (Orienteering)

If you do not have a GPS we will have a few available for use.

If you already have a GPS this exercise is a great chance to get out in the forest and stretch your legs.
