The "Survey & Manage" designation is from the Northwest Forest Plan, and includes 418 species of amphibians (salamanders), mammals, birds, bats, mosses and liverworts, snails and slugs, vascular plants, fungi and lichens, plus 4 arthropod communities (insects, crustaceans, spiders and other invertebrates). There are four components to the Survey & Manage provision; the GIS coverage and ORACLE database include the Component 1 species, with direction to "Manage Known Sites".
At present, the coverage includes locations of only one Washington State Species of Concern, the Van Dyke's salamander. Data sources include Olympic National Forest field surveys, research studies and the Interim Database for Survey and Management Component 1 Species (a Paradox database compiled by the Regional Ecosystem Office).
